US 1 from MD 200 to Baltimore City is a major local thoroughfare that traverses through towns like Laurel, Jessup, Elkridge, and Halethorpe. It's also called Baltimore Ave south of Laurel, Washington Blvd from Laurel to the US 1/US 1 Alt split, and Southwestern Blvd from the US 1/US 1 Alt split to the Baltimore City line. US 1 follows parallel to I-95 along this strip of road, passing underneath it near Arbutus (though with no exit access). US 1 also intersects I-895, I-195, and I-695 along this stretch of road - all of which are within a little over 3 miles of each other.

Northbound

A single lane splits off of US 1 to carry the exit to I-895. This was the beginning of I-895 until the construction of I-95 in the 1970's. Access to I-895 is only available northbound, as I-895 has no exits until the toll in each direction (except for access to Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital on the east side).

Less than a half-mile from I-895 is I-195, which connects to Catonsville and BWI Airport. This was originally built as an extension of MD 166; it later connected to MD 46 and was redesignated I-195. To the right of this interchange heading north is the Guinness Open Gate Brewery, which has increased traffic along this stretch of road even more.

Immediately past I-195 is where US 1 splits into US 1 and US 1 Alternate. US 1 Alt will take you to I-695 and I-95 with full access either direction at both interchanges. US 1 takes you to the Halethorpe MARC train station and a newly reconfigured on-ramp to the I-695 Inner Loop. Here, Washington Boulevard carries US 1 Alternate while US 1 continues on as Southwestern Boulevard.

US 1 approaches the I-695 Inner Loop in Arbutus. The on-ramp was accessible via Leeds Avenue, an older road that runs parallel to Southwestern Boulevard, until 2017. I-695 had a bridge re-construction project that allowed for a new, longer ramp to be built overtop Leeds Avenue to US 1. Farther ahead, there are still lingering signs referencing drivers to Leeds Avenue to access I-695.
