Maryland Route 100
Paul T. Pitcher Memorial Highway
MD 100 is a major expressway in the southern suburbs of Baltimore, acting as a partial outer beltway. It
runs from US 29 between Columbia and Ellicott City to MD 177 approaching Gibson Island.
MD 100 was constructed piecemeal over a 30 year period, originally opening from then-MD 3 (now I-97) to Mountain
Road near MD 2 (Ritchie Hwy). By 1970, the entire section from MD 3 to MD 177 near Gibson Island was either
under construction or opened. Another small section from I-95 to US 1 was opened around the mid-1970s, with the
biggest sections of MD 100 being built between 1989 and 1998. MD 100 was officially completed and opened in full
in late 1998.
