I-81 is the shortest interstate in Maryland at a little over 12 miles long. In its short time in Maryland, it runs through Hagerstown along the U.S. 11 corridor. I-81 provides an important connection to central Pennsylvania and the Appalachian corridor of West Virginia and Virginia, especially for trucks.
