I-68 (National Freeway) is a relatively newer interstate, only having been added to the Interstate Highway System in 1991.
This page shows the entire interstate both in Maryland and in West Virginia (though not all of it has been photographed yet).

US 40 is concurrent on this section of route.

I-68 branches out from I-70 in Hancock, MD. US 40 also continues on I-68 westbound, while US 522 follows I-70 into Pennsylvania. Following the split, the first exit is for both MD 144 and US 40 Scenic, the only remaining Scenic US route in the entire United States. I-68/US 40 are practically intertwined with US 40 Scenic for the next 10 miles.
