US 190 Business, known as Fremaux Avenue locally, is a business route of US 190 in Slidell. It starts at US 11 (Front Street) in Old Town Slidell and ends at the Fremaux Avenue and Military Road intersection to the southeast of the city. This section of road was US 190 prior to the construction of I-10.
Eastbound
Immediately from Front Street (US 11), the first reassurance marker used to appear on a pole just as the business route began. It has been gone since 2018.
From here, US 190 Bus continues eastward towards I-10. It passes through a mixed residential and commercial area.
US 190 Bus reaches the Fremaux Town Center, built in the first couple of years after Hurricane Katrina.
Also note that the MD 166 sign has an error - it should have "MARYLAND" above the line.
Technically when you veer right at this split, you are still de jure on MD 166. Despite this, the first eastbound I-195 reassurance marker is at the first bend past the Southwest Park and Ride, thus making this the de facto start of I-195.
Continuing eastbound, an on-ramp from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) merges onto MD 166/I-195. The next BGS reminds drivers that the next exit is for I-95 Southbound towards Washington, DC.
Approaching I-95, we see what should be the first overhead reassurance marker, officially marking the de jure start of I-195. This section of roadway opened piecemeal between 1971 and 1975. Initially, this was signed as a second part of MD 46 (the then route from MD 295 to Friendship International Airport, now BWI Thurgood Marshall International Airport) but eventually was signed as an extension of MD 166 by the early 1980's. It would be signed as such until the switchover to I-195 in June 1990.
From here, you can hop on I-95 Southbound towards MD 100 and Washington, DC.
